Gabrielle Chanel born in the town
of Saumur in the Loire Valley in French on August 1883 and died in 1971.
Because of the early death of her mother, Chanel and her sister were sent to an
orphanage at Aubazine, where the nuns have taught the two girls sewing. Later
on, Chanel and her sister both assist Monsieur Henri Desboutin of the house of
Grampayre as dressmakers. Chanel’s neat tailor-made suit and masculine riding
dress made her stand out from other designers. In 1908-1909, Chanel used an
apartment of her friend, Balsan, in Paris to set up a millinery business. Chanel’s
lover, millionaire Arthur Capel, who also known as “Boy”, lent her money to
rent commercial premises on the rue Cambon and found a shop for Chanel to open
on the fashionable rue Gontaut-Biron. Chanel’s first collection was presented
there in 1913. Chanel was well known with her little black dress and the ballet
flats with contrasting toe-caps. In 1921, Chanel launched her first perfume,
Chanel No. 5. Chanal No.5 was the first perfume has a designer’s name. It
remains top sellers perfumes until today.
